Tuesday Tradition ♥ What do you collect?

Yes, I' m asking you if you collect something...you know, stamps, baseball cards, spoons, dolls, postcards, etc...do you collect anything?

I'm curious to know if you do because I've realized that at this moment in my life I don't collect anything! This might sound kind of weird, but I have nothing and I haven't collected anything since I was about 13 years old....I'm just kind of existing without a personal branding of some sort. Everyone collects something right? Teapots, fabric, radios, shoes....

It seems that when we're kids our parents or grandparents find something for us to collect. I think I was betrothed to dolls, spoons and stamps...I know, exciting. I never LOVED collecting any of those things, but the family picked that for me and that's what they bought me for my birthdays and holidays. Oh, and music boxes too. I was a complete TOMBOY! And Stamps???? Just weird.

Anyway, I want to know what you collect. Do you have a collection of teddy bears from high school or do you have a new collection now that you're an adult? I almost feel left out of the club. I mean, all my friends collect something. I can think of a few off the top of my head and if their birthdays were tomorrow I'd know exactly what to get them....something in their collections of course. But me, nothing. I get $10 gift cards to Macy's. What? What the heck can I buy at Macy's for $10?

So I've had enough....I decided it's time to collect things....and I've picked 2 things. Two. I'm an overachiever. I want my mom or husband or best friend to be able to go to a store and stumble on one of my themed-collections and buy it for me just because they know I "collect" it.

So do you know what I want to start collecting....Okay. I'll tell you.

The first one is Vintage dishes. I'm in LOVE with them all of a sudden. Pyrex, Fiesta, Anchor Hocking...I know there are tons more, but I'm new at this thing. I just love dishes. I love serving food in dishes. Different colors. They don't need to match. And I want to find a table setting that is totally pieced together as well. Nothing needs to match. So that's my first new collection.

Second, Birds. My blog kind of started it...I'm loving the new Bird Craze. Not Beautiful swan-type birds. I'm loving the shabby-chic-funky birds. I really love the one in my header (thank you Trendy Mommy). So I'm going to start collecting birds. I'd like some decor for my house and office...maybe some jewelry. Pillows for the couch would be nice. Maybe birds on dishes....huhhh! Yeah.

So what do you collect? Or do you have some suggestions for me on finding vintage dishes or birdies? I'd love to hear.

I collect Fiesta Ware ... I love it. I mix and match all the colors. I also collect old Pepsi glasses from the 70's. I've been meaning to blog about those for a while. Thanks for reminding me. I love to visit antique shops and see if something catches my eye. I'm ready to find something else to start collecting.

Oh, and I'm not getting your Family Yearbook challenge emails anymore. I have week 1 and 2, but that's the last I received.

How fun! I love your post! I try and not collect too much of anything because we end up moving and after a while all the stuff we've re-collected has to go somewhere else-lol! But here's a few:

We (my daughters and I) love to host tea parties or just have them so I'll collect a few things here and there relating to tea. Some creamers and sugars, some vintage silver accessories, tablecloths, cloth napkins-but not all of one kind of anything. I like different color and textures, funky retro and traditional-mixed all up!

Items for my girls hope chest

This one is weird and possibly gross to some-my children's teeth. When they're young and you tell them about the tooth-fairy-you come up with stories. I always told them that the TF made a beautiful white castle with teeth-I know dorky. I just couldn't lie to them. Anyway, I thought I could create a "castle" by saving them but there's not enough and it would be super tiny! They LOVE looking at them though and remembering the stories of how they came out. Now there's a tradition for you! LOL! I don't think anyone is jumping on that one real soon:)
Blessings! Amanda:)

We collect Frankoma pottery, Jonathan Adler pottery, Xixing teapots, Harmoney Kindgdom boxes (stopped collecting those), owls, Le Cruset pots, Pyrex vintage bowls and serving ware, books vintage and new, small paintings grouped on one wall, vintage state plates that we've lived in, vintage jewelry and I prob. missed a few things. Yes, I have, but the list is long enough. : )

My only collection is sand from the beaches we visit. Brings back family memories.

My daughter likes to collect keychains, postcards, rocks, dice, fortunes, miniature dolls, and panda bears to name a few.

Not much of a collector here. I love all my photos of my family if that is a collection, I don't know. I think it would be nice to pass something on to my children but just haven't found that thing yet. My kids, on the other hand, seems to collect everything they can get their hands on.

I collect all sorts of things! I've been collecting turtles since I was about 13. Lately, I've been collecting Corelle and Corning ware dishes.

I have had a collection of clowns since I was 10, and I kept adding to it up unti about 4 years ago, when I no longer had a place for them, and now they just sit in a box in the basement. I had a toy room decked out in clowns for the kids once, but then we moved, and no toy room in new house.......most people hate clowns, but I think they are happy, and make me smile! That's what I collect.......and my most recent collection is coffee mugs from travel destinations because my kitchen is decked out in coffee themed decor.

I use to collect Boyds Bears. They are resin figurines. I feel like I have a ton.
I no longer collect them or really I no longer receive new ones. I think it is time I sell them.
I have no other collections and seem to be going to into a faze where less is more and I want to get rid of everything. I think this came from how often I moved and I hated to carry those boxes!
My daughter collects baby dolls and chap stick.

You collect memories. That is the best thing to collect.

I don't collect anything. I'd like to collect shoes, but I don't.

I just found your blog today and I'm getting sucked in already! lol. So i collect WAY too many things. I'm sort of a nerd that way. Here are a few of my faves: fridge magnets, shot glasses, decorative spoons, hard rock cafe shirts, porcelain dolls, SHOES, old coins, smelly stuff from bath and body works, and probably some more stuff I can't think of right now.

Tara - you silly head! Of course you collect something...

Books! You have published with Cherish Bound a ton. I only mention this because I realized the other day that I'm a power publisher too. In the last year, I've published probably 30 books! I know you've done tons, too.

So, there you go, you ARE a collector - of the coolest stuff ever: stories (and pics).

Love ya,
Kara

I collect sterling silver flatware in the pattern "Flowered Antique" from the 1940's. I received my late grandmother's set several years ago and am having a blast adding to it over the years. It's a pattern that is hard to find so it makes it even more fun. I mostly hav eBay to thank for my finds. I never met my grandmother but envision the occasions she must have used the set. Thanks for letting me share.
